This week we sponsored St Paul's Bessbrook with their fundraising efforts for Ellen's Journey. Ellen Treanor (3) was taken to the doctor last year with stomach pains, blood tests and an MRI scan followed, resulting in the neuroblastoma diagnosis. Following the first few months of intense chemotherapy, Ellen suffered from infections, spending the majority of her time in hospital. Ellen then spent 13 hours in surgery to remove as much of the tumour as possible, followed by a week in intensive care.
Ellen faces an uncertain future - in around 40-50% of children with high-risk neuroblastoma the cancer comes back and of those children fewer than 1 in 10 will survive. So, Ellen’s family are fundraising in case they need to access treatment or clinical trials not available through the NHS.
Well done to everyone involved
